Environmental Microbiology and Biotechnology

The goal of our lab is to solve key environmental problems by applying microbiology and biotechnology approaches. We specifically focus on (1) nitrogen pollution and (2) the occurrences of pathogens. We use multiple approaches to answer fundamental and applied scientific questions, including microbiological (e.g., single-cell isolation), analytical (e.g., stable isotope analysis, microsensor measurements), molecular biological (e.g., gene manipulation), omics technologies (e.g., genomics, metagenomics, metatranscriptomics, high-throughput sequencing, bioinformatics), and engineering (e.g., bioreactors, mathematical modeling) approaches.
